During the Ukrainian part of the 5th anniversary edition of the OKO International Ethnographic Film Festival in Bolhrad, the jury members will decide the fate of 41 films from the OKO GLOBAL International Short Film Competition. The invited experts have a difficult task, but we are confident that this will not prevent them from making a fair and wise decision about the winners.
The jury members of the 5th edition of the OKO IЕFF are:
Jeanne Maksymenko-Dovhych is a Ukrainian Director and Producer from Kyiv, Ukraine. Having her master’s degree in journalism, she worked with different Ukrainian TV channels as a correspondent and later as a creative producer. Her short films were presented at various national and international film festivals, as well as received festival awards. In 2021, Jeanne took part in the EsoDoc training programme with her project Peace for Nina, which touches on the topic of war crimes and accountability for them. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Jeanne has also been working as a freelance journalist for CBC radio, as a local producer with international media, including AP, Le Monde, Channel 9 Australia. She continues to work on documentaries in Ukraine as a director and producer. She is head of the Directors Guild of Ukraine, a member of the Documentary Association of Europe and Ukrainian Film Academy.
Filipa Andreia Cardoso is a Belgian director, editor and screenwriter. She was born in Lisbon in 1971. At the age of 18, she left her homeland and went to France to study dance. She traveled around the world as a dancer and discovered her passion for photography. After moving to Brussels, she began to delve into filmmaking. Philippe's first films were dedicated to the world of theater, dance and music, and later she co-directed documentaries, including one about the Indian filmmaker Satyajit Rai.
Since then, she has been constantly enriching her experience and working at all stages of filmmaking - from shooting to final editing. In particular, Philippa was the editor of the film I Am Chance(s) (directed by Marc-Henri Weinberg), which won the International Feature Film Competition at the third edition of the OKO International Ethnographic Film Festival in 2022. The following year, her film Gyuto, which she directed and screenwrote, was also presented in the International feature film competition program of the festival.
Peter Todorov is the Director of the National Film Center (NFC) executive agency in Bulgaria. This position he has held since 2022. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy with a degree in Political Science and holds a Master's degree in European Studies with a specialization in E-Europe from St. Clement Ohridski University in Sofia. Peter also specializes in managing independent cinemas in Italy and France. He has more than 23 years of experience in the film industry, including production, distribution, promotion and screening of films, as well as organization of international film festivals. Peter Todorov is a film producer and distributor of European feature and short films and documentaries. Expert in film management, project management, and leadership. He worked at the first multiplex cinema in Sofia and has been producing films for over 7 years. He is an external expert of the Eurimages program of the Council of Europe and the European Commission in the Creative Europe educational and cultural program.
Hristo Anastassov is a Bulgarian and French-speaking historian and political scientist. He was born in Sofia on April 13, 1980. He graduated from the National High School of Ancient Languages and Cultures in Sofia. After studying at Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg and Bilgi University in Istanbul, he was editor-in-chief at Courrier de la Bulgiarie and an analyst in a number of Bulgarian media. The main focus of his analyzes is the historical layers in contemporary geopolitical topics. Since 2014, he has been the Chairman of the Association of United Reformers.
The winner of the Jury Grand Prize in OKO GLOBAL International Short Film Competition will be announced at the closing ceremony of the Film Festival in Ukraine and will receive a prize of 600 euros. Besides, in this section, jury members will also award Jury Special Prizes for the best fiction, non-fiction and animated films and ethnographic representation.
In addition to the professional jury, the audience of the OKO IEFF will also be the arbiters. They will vote for their five favorite films from the four competition programs and the section OKO HITS which will be available for viewing during the Ukrainian edition. The film that takes the first place will receive the Audience Award and a cash prize of 150 euros.
In addition, the Bolhrad City Council, as a co-organizer, will award one film from the NASHE OKO program (among short and feature films) that receives the most audience votes. The winning film will receive a cash prize of 150 euros.
The winners will be announced on the 15th of September at the Closing ceremony of the OKO IEFF in Bolhrad. They will also receive diplomas and a festival trophy “Tsehlynka”.
