War Through Two Camera Lenses: Where Silence Screams

War Through Two Camera Lenses: Where Silence Screams is an exhibition by photographers Oleksandr Baron (Ukraine) and Rumen Sarandiev (Bulgaria). It consists of 40 photographs, some of which show Ukraine and Ukrainians through the eyes of Oleksandr Baron. The other were taken in June 2024 in Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions within the project “Step by Step to Normality or Life Goes on in Ukrainian”, implemented jointly with Dorothea Nikolova (who can be seen in some of the photos) as part of a journalism grant funded by the n-ost program The Europe-Ukraine Desk.

The project is about how small everyday details that we usually do not notice and take for granted keep the spirit of the Ukrainians alive. Such details reflect the understanding of the Ukrainians that life goes on despite the war. And it should be worthy and beautiful.

The texts for the project, which can shape your vision of what the war in Ukraine looks like - with traces of destruction, but also with the unwavering faith, courage and thirst for life of the Ukrainians - can be found on the websites of Radio Varna/BPR and the Bessarabian Front. Please do so without fail. See Ukraine through the eyes of talented photographers, one of whom is defending it in the ranks of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The photo exhibition will be held from November 8 to 15 at the National Palace of Culture (Hall 11, Lumiere Cinema) and the G8 Cultural Center.

Look forward to seeing you!
